Historic Multnomah Falls footbridge reopens after repairs

first_imgThe Benson Bridge at Oregon’s Multnomah Falls is again open after a four-month closure, U.S. Forest Service officials announced Tuesday. The footbridge was closed in January after a large rock fell from the surrounding cliffs and damaged the arched concrete span. Officials closed the bridge, built in 1914, until repairs and other maintenance work was completed this week. Battle Ground-based contractor Catworks Construction led the project. The opening means the popular Wahkeena to Multnomah Falls hiking loop is passable, as is the hike from the Multnomah Falls visitor center to the top of the falls.Officials also plan a reopening ceremony and celebration of the Benson Bridge’s centennial at 10 a.m. May 30.Multnomah Falls is just off Interstate 84, about 30 miles east of Portland.last_img
