1 in 3 election ballots returned in Clark County

first_imgMore than one in three registered voters in Clark County have filled out and returned their ballots, according to numbers kept by the county’s election department.Out of the more than 241,000 ballots sent this fall to registered voters in the county, more than 82,000 have been returned as of Tuesday. That’s a voter turnout of more than 34 percent so far.By Oct. 30 in 2008, about 44 percent of registered voters had returned their ballots. In 2008 and this year, ballots were mailed to registered voters on Oct. 15.The office of the Secretary of the State predicts an 81 percent voter turnout statewide this election. In 2008, general election turnout was 84.6 percent.Ballots in the Nov. 6 vote-by-mail general election must be postmarked by Nov. 6. Ballots also can be returned on Election Day to several drop-off locations throughout the county by no later than 8 p.m.One 24-hour ballot drop-off box is open between now and Nov. 6 on West 14th Street, about one block east of the elections department, 1408 Franklin St. in Vancouver. The county’s elections office will be open on Nov. 3, a Saturday, to accept ballots in person and to issue replacement ballots.last_img
