Rossi reportedly ready to challenge Murray for Senate

first_imgAt least one local candidate in Washington’s U.S. Senate race was considering whether to continue Monday after the Associated Press reported that Republican Dino Rossi will enter the race as early as Wednesday.Republican Craig Williams, a Vancouver Realtor and energy trader, said he would be talking to his campaign staff over the next few days. He admitted frustration at reports that Rossi will jump into the contest to challenge U.S. Sen. Patty Murray. Nearly a dozen Republicans have announced their intent to run in the top two primary, and most are actively campaigning.“The reason I got into the race was to provide opposition to Sen. Murray when there wasn’t any,” Williams said. “I spent five months searching for a candidate to support and nobody was willing to run at that point. It’s unfortunate that Mr. Rossi has waited this long to get into the race.”Williams said he does not know Rossi’s positions on national issues, but fears that the state GOP is about to repeat history by backing the former state senator and two-time candidate for governor.“Having reviewed the last three elections, we have thrown three strong candidates at Murray: Rod Chandler, Linda Smith and George Nethercutt,” Williams said. “We are 0 for 3 with that formula of finding someone with name recognition and money. We are doing the same thing now.”last_img
