Britains biggest ever blue shark caught by Cornish fishermenand they put it

first_imgSome very lucky fishermen managed to reel in a prize catch – Britain’s biggest ever blue shark. You may not want to get nose-to-nose with this magnificent creature, who has been released back into the ocean, but the four fishermen were all smiles as they held up the giant animal. The shark weighed 256lbs, which beat the previous record of 214lbs – a record which had held firm for 58 years. The 9ft animal was caught during a fishing trip off Penzance, Cornwall, by amateur angler John Dine. The group, from Essex, managed to get it onboard by working together. They then quickly calculated its weight, held it aloft for a photo and then returned the creature back to the sea.The men will claim the ‘catch and release’ record from the Shark Angling Club of Great Britain in the next month. For those interested in how to land a huge shark, Mr Dine used mackerel bait on a size 10/0 hook and a 400lb, 49-strand Fin-Nor rod and reel to bring it in.
