Maritime Ship Modelers Guild members were recognized for contributions to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic by the museum’s board of governors today, April 18. Since 2003, the dedicated modelers have spent nearly 13,000 hours volunteering at the museum, using their expertise to conserve, treat and preserve almost all of the models in the museum’s extensive collection. The volunteers also devote time to public programming. Working from the museum’s model shop, they share their knowledge of this time-honoured craft with interested visitors of all ages. Through their passion for ship models and love of maritime history, these people help create an awareness, appreciation and understanding of a part of Nova Scotia’s marine heritage. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is located at 1675 Lower Water St., Halifax.
