first_imgFlags above the legislature have been lowered to half mast out of respect for Sergeant Darcy Tedford, Premier Rodney MacDonald said today, Oct. 17. Tedford and another 1st Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment soldier, Pte. Blake Williamson, died Saturday, Oct. 14, in an ambush while on duty in Afghanistan. Sgt. Tedford grew up in Earltown near Truro. “Our sympathies go to Sgt. Tedford’s family during this time,” said Premier MacDonald. The premier also extended sympathies and thoughts for Sgt. Tedford’s comrades — the men and women of the Canadian Forces carrying out their duty as part of the NATO mission in Afghanistan. “Our men and women have dangerous jobs helping the Afghan people withstand the Taliban’s attacks as Afghan citizens and international forces work to support the growth of Afghanistan’s newborn democracy,” Premier MacDonald said. -30-last_img
