Voltigeur target for Dabadiyan

first_img The Aga Khan-owned three-year-old has now won his last three races in the manner of a rapidly improving colt. He holds entries in both the English and Irish St Legers and after winning Her Majesty’s Plate in Northern Ireland, Halford will now raise him in class. Michael Halford’s Dabadiyan continued his progression at Down Royal on Friday evening and now has the Great Voltigeur at York on August 21 as a potential target. “They went a good gallop, he arrived travelling well and he just does enough,” said Halford. “The Irish Leger is a possibility as is the English. He may go to York now for the Great Voltigeur.” center_img Press Associationlast_img read more

McManaman preaches patience

first_imgCallum McManaman has called for patience after West Brom’s winless start to the season, believing they are on the cusp of breaking their duck. They host Port Vale in the Capital One Cup second round on Tuesday and McManaman expects a Baggies revival. “I think once we find our first win, we will go on a run and win a few games,” he said. “We showed (against Chelsea) that we can compete with the better teams in this league and that gives us plenty of confidence. “We obviously want to get points on the board as quickly as we can. “The squad is gelling together really well. I think once we have got ourselves sorted defensively as a team that will help massively. “The new players have come in and settled really well which is obviously great for us.” McManaman impressed against the champions and won an early penalty but Thibaut Courtois saved James Morrison’s effort. Midfielder Morrison did score twice and while boss Tony Pulis may make changes against Vale McManaman insisted the squad can take heart from their performance. Press Association “It’s pleasing to know we played so well against the champions,” he told the club’s official site. “We caused them plenty of problems before and after the (John Terry) red card. “If you let in three goals in any game it’s going to cost you points but you just can’t do that against Chelsea, it killed us in the first half.” The Baggies winger thinks they can kick-start their season soon following a second defeat of the campaign. Albion lost 3-2 to 10-man Chelsea in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday while they also suffered defeat to Manchester City and drew 0-0 at Watford. last_img read more

MTB star Burry Stander dead in crash

first_img4 January 2013 Aged only 25, Stander’s death has sent shockwaves through the cycling community. There was also fury that yet another cyclist had been lost in an accident, with members of the community saying other vehicles do not respect them enough on the road. “We have been blessed to have had such an amazing and inspirational person represent South Africa and we will treasure every memory.” ‘Humility and prowess’“We have lost not only a friend, colleague and team-mate, but a true sportsman. He will long be remembered for his humility, his prowess and the gentle manner in which he conducted his life! “Sincere condolences to all. His 2012 duel with Olympic silver medallist Nino Schurter for victory in the UCI World Cup in Pietermaritzburg was a sight to behold as the pair destroyed the chasing field. Seeing it on television is one thing; seeing such speed, endurance and skill in real life is another. Along with Greg Minnaar in downhill and Robbie Hunter on the road, he put South African cycling on the world map. ‘I have no words’Gary Perkin, one of the world’s leading mountain biking photographers, wrote on Twitter: “I have no words … Only tears! RIP Burry!” His sentiments were echoed by many. Twitter lit up as plans began to be put in place for a ride in memory of the former under-23 world champion, who finished fifth in the 2012 London Olympic Games. Leading the way in planning it were cycling personalities such as world downhill champion Greg Minnaar, Andrew McLean, Robbie Hunter and Kevin McCallum. 20132013 should have been a great year for Stander. It could have been the best of his life. He would have defended the Absa Cape Epic title with Christoph Sauser, aiming for a hat-trick of wins. News of his passing devastated the Swiss great. “Never felt so empty since my dad passed away when i was a kid. @africanmtbkid i will never ever forget you!” Sauser wrote on Twitter. “Dear All, “David Hyam and the Specialized S-Racing Team” His wife of less than a year, Cherise, an elite cyclist too, won a stage of the Route de France, the women’s version of the Tour de France in 2011. She was set to concentrate on mountain biking in 2012, however, and hopefully follow in the footsteps of her husband. South African cycling lost its greatest ever cross-country rider on Thursday. Burry Stander, one of the world’s leading competitors in the discipline, was killed while training after being hit by a minibus taxi. ‘One of the coolest and greatest’“World is going crazy! I’m so sad to hear again such bad news. Burry was one of the coolest and greatest athlete in MTB sport! #RIP” Schurter tweeted. “It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to our friend and cycling legend Burry, who was tragically snatched away in the prime of his life while training in his home town of Kwazulu-Natal this afternoon. “Not only is this a loss to South African sport, but we have lost a true gentleman who through his professionalism, modesty and humility, constantly showing sheer guts, represented our country with great pride. A statement released by Cycling South Africa read: “Burry, who was the most successful mountain bike cyclist the country has ever seen, and whose promising career has been abruptly cut short, was a true icon and sporting role model. “Our heartfelt sympathies, thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Cherise, his parents, family and all who were privileged to know this gentle giant. “Life is short, life is sweet but his legend will live on forever. Stander was also set to take part in the World Championships on home ground, where he finished second in the World Cup in 2012 on the same track that will be used later this year. Respected and much lovedStander’s outstanding talent, his massive work ethic, his excellent results at the highest level and his humility made him a respected and much loved man to many. The shock of his loss continues to reverberate around the cycling world. Stander was part of Specialized Racing’s powerful team, and with Olympic champion Jaroslav Kulhavy gave the outfit a fantastic 1-2 punch. Specialized’s director of sports marketing, David Hyam, wrote a letter about the passing of the South African star: Would you like to use this article in your publication or on your website? Seesmic Looks Beyond Twitter – Acquires Ping.fm

first_imgSeesmic has acquiredPing.fm, a status update service that allows users to update posts on over 50 social networks through SMS, mobile apps, IM services and 3rd party apps that support the service. Seesmic plans to integrate Ping.fm into all of its applications in the near future. In addition, Seesmic’s users will be able to send updates to their favorite social networks through Ping.fm’s email, SMS and IM gateways. Ping.fm’s founders Adam Duffy and Sean McCullough will join Seesmic as full-time employees and continue to work on Ping.fm. Neither Seesmic nor Ping.fm disclosed the terms of the acquisition. It’s worth noting, however, that both Creative Commons CEO Joi Ito and LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman invested in Ping.fm in December 2008. Update: Joi Ito just confirmed that this acquisition now makes him an investor in Seesmic. Seesmic’s founder Loic Le Meur notes that he hopes that this acquisition will allow the company to speed up “its vision of becoming your default application to stay in touch with your friends and constantly managing your online social presence.” Through Ping.fm, Seesmic’s users will soon be able to easily update their status on a wide variety of social networks like Ning, Yahoo Meme, Yammer and Status.net. Seesmic already offered built-in support for Facebook, Linkedin and MySpace.According to Le Meur, Ping.fm currently has over 500,000 registered users, though the number of active users is likely far smaller. In total, Ping.fm posts about 200,000 updates per day. Seesmic’s own Twhirl has offered support for Ping.fm since early 2009.Seesmic Wants to be a Lot More Than Just a Twitter ClientGiven Seesmic’s vision, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the company is interested in broadening its scope beyond Twitter. The acquisition of Ping.fm gives Seesmic all the necessary infrastructure like SMS and IM gateways to execute this vision. Ping.fm offers it’s own URL shortener and gives users access to detailed statistics about how these links were used. One of the most interesting aspects of the company’s recently announced native Windows client, for example, is that it includes support for a plugin architecture. This will allow developers to integrate support for virtually any social network into Seesmic. In the near future, Seesmic plans to expand this feature to all of its clients. Steve Jobs’ New Yacht And Other Secret Projects Revealed

first_imgTags:#Apple#Steve Jobs adam popescu Apple’s HeadquartersAnother dream of Jobs was to create a futuristic spaceship like Cupertino facility on the grounds of the old Hewlett-Packard headquarters. Jobs made his last public appearance (against his doctor’s wishes) to pitch this idea to the Cupertino city council. The plan calls for a giant new Apple complex on the site of HP’s old space where Jobs worked part-time at the age of 13. A 2.8-million-square-foot building that resembled a metallic dome with natural light, the design put 12,000 people in one building, taking the idea of an office park to a whole new level. The Cupertino city council approved the project while trying to strongarm him to open an Apple Store in the city, which Jobs coyly declined. The project is supposed to be completed in 2015.  Here is Jobs presenting to the Cupertino city council in June of 2011:  Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting “I know that it’s possible I will die and leave Laurene with a half-built boat. But I have to keep going on it. If I don’t, it’s an admission that I’m about to die.“Steve Jobs on the then-uncompleted yacht in his biography by Walter Isaccson.  Like Tupac’s hologram at the Coachella music festival, and the CGI generated likeness of Elvis appearing in Coca-Cola commercials, the ghosts of past giants still walk among us. Perhaps none more than Steve Jobs, the visionary co-founder of Apple. When Jobs passed away in October 2011 he left a slew of unfinished secret projects that never saw the light of day. Now, a year after his death, one of his most personal visions has been completed. It’s called the Venus, and it’s a 260-foot yacht, a minimalist design that Jobs conceived and that his biographer Walter Isaacson described as an “obsession” for the Apple co-founder.True to his singular vision, the Venus is a floating Apple device, with seven 27-inch iMacs on board, sleek like a floating piece of hardware, a vertiable Air Force One for the tech giant, albeit one he never got to play with. The vessel is made of lightweight aluminum and a special glass conceived by Apple engineers. The ship was built by a Dutch manufacturer with the interior done by renowned designer Philippe Starck. As a token of appreciation for the completed project, yesterday Jobs’s widow and three of their children were on hand for the yacht’s formal launch in the Netherlands. As a token of appreciation, Jobs’s family gave custom iPods and wrote personal thank you notes to everyone who worked on the yacht (see what I mean here). Details about the vessel’s price or what the family plans to do with it are as yet unknown.  Here’s a video look at the Venus’s launch via the Dutch blog One More Thing: Secret ProjectsJobs’s yacht wasn’t the only secret project he was working on. Another project was Apple University, an executive training program to mold employees into thinking like the enigmatic Jobs. In 2008, Jobs accelerated his vision after his second medical leave and hired Joel Podolny, the dean of Yale University’s School of Management who left that post suddenly to lead the push in Cupertino. The project was closely guarded and said to mirror in structure Jobs’s other company Pixar, which developed a Pixar University training program. The basic idea behind Apple U was to impart Jobs’s thinking to Apple’s worker bees so they could keep his vision alive after he was gone.  Jobs even developed university level courses to teach the business principles that helped him lead the tech behemoth.  It’s unclear where the project is now, but it appears Podolny is still with Apple as of this July and an “Inside Apple Recruitment” video. How to Create a Dronie Loop in After Effects

first_imgDownload the Free Footage and Project FilesTo download the free footage and project files mentioned in the tutorial above, simply click the button below.DOWNLOAD FREE PROJECT FILE AND CLIPThe Keys to Creating Your Aerial Drone LoopThe following points can help you create your visual loop in Adobe After Effects:Keep your drone (or hand-held camera) movement as smooth as possible when shooting. If you are filming yourself or other people, make sure they minimize their movement during the shot. (The speed ramp can create unwanted results if people move too much.)Use the Time-Remapping effect to speed up your footage. (I usually compress 15 seconds of footage to about 2 seconds.)Use the After Effects Ram Preview function to ensure a seamless loop. (And preview it at full resolution.)Finally, use CC Force Motion Blur (or Pixel Motion Blur) on an adjustment layer above your footage. (I recommend setting the samples to 12.) Learn how to create a drone selfie loop in Adobe After Effects with this video tutorial. With free project files!Top image via Shutterstock. In this tutorial, we are going to create a dronie loop (drone selfie) using some time-remapping techniques in Adobe After Effects. Before we get started, I want to mention that this effect isn’t limited to selfies — it’s just called that because this effect is common on Twitter and Instagram. (I’m not a big selfie guy myself.)Essentially, we’re creating a seamless aerial loop — the camera moves from point A to point B and back again. What makes this effect look particularly nice is the speed ramping that occurs during the movement, giving the shot some motion blur and velocity. This effect also isn’t limited to drones. However, it does look best with long, smooth camera moves, which are easy to do with drones. Experiment with the effect yourself and see what you can come up with.
