first_imgThe Homeless World Cup Organization has renewed a 3-year partnership with Football to Develop Destitute (FODEDE), a Liberian street soccer association. The deal, which runs from 1st January 2014 to 31st December 2016, was offered after FODEDE pledged its commitment of trust and faith after six years of being cut-off after four players absconded from the Liberian delegation at the 2008 Homeless World Cup in Australia.“The agreement recommits the Homeless World Cup to work with FODEDE. Liberia can now apply to enter the HWC annual international street soccer tournament for October 2014 in Chile,” Wallace Weiah, President/CEO of FODEDE said. In order to heighten opportunities for destitute youths, FODEDE penned a partnership with Christian Home in Liberating Destitute (CHILD)–Liberia, an implementing partner in Liberia for FIFA’s Football for Hope (FfH) program in Africa.“Through a modest funding, FIFA is providing support through the FfH program to CHILD –Liberia to enhance FODEDE/CHILD football and social programs as pledged by Football for Hope and CHILD,” Weiah said.In preparation for the 2014 Homeless World Cup in Chile and mindful of the Homeless World Cup partnership agreement, FODEDE is hosting its 8th Street Soccer Spike Talent and Recruitment Tournament. The tourney is scheduled from the 6th to the 15th of June at the ETMI High School’s Sports Stadium in Caldwell with the expected participations of 20 male teams and 8 female teams for the 2014 and 2015 competitions respectively.Meanwhile, FODEDE for the first time will join other women from around the world to attend the 6th IWG World Conference on Women and Sport in Helsinki, Finland from June 12 – 15, 2014 under the overall theme “Lead the Change – Be the Change.”Madam Rochell G. D. Woodson, the Executive Director of FODEDE will represent Liberia and will present a project with the title ‘Stand for Something Making Girls Stronger by the Day.’Weiah said the project will be a roadmap to lift girls out of the cage of subjection, caused by ills created by human actions in order to make them useful models of change and empowerment to others.FIFA through Football for Hope is hopeful that the Liberia Football Association (LFA) will supplement Football For Hope’s objectives to build a better future for Liberian youths with funding, equipment, and capacity building and the use of its facilities.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
